Use of images

Please consult our Licensing Terms. Copies of images downloaded free are low resolution and can only be used for private study or non-commercial research and other permitted exceptions to copyright under the Copyright Act 1988 as amended. Please ensure you select the correct licence for your intended use.

If you reuse an image, it is your responsibility to make sure that a copyright exception applies, such as fair dealing criticism and review, or that you have purchased an appropriate licence. Use of AI to alter an image for reuse in any way is expressly forbidden.

Use of documents

All documents are provided as PDFs at a high resolution. Some PDFs are provided free under a Creative Commons licence but the majority have a small cost to support the work of putting them online. Documents provided under a Creative Commons licence are free to use provided appropriate credit is given. All other documents can only be used for private study or non-commercial research and other permitted exceptions to copyright under the Copyright Act 1988 as amended. Any other use requires permission from the rights holder indicated in the details provided about the document. Please contact South Pennine Archives in the first instance.

Credit and citations

All uses of images and documents must acknowledge South Pennine Archives using the full citation given at the bottom of each item. The citation indicates the source of the item, the identifier for finding it, and the creator, title and date.

Payments

All major credit/debit cards are accepted as payment. We also accept payment by BACS, by phone or by cheque.

We will take payment from your card at the time of your order. Taking payment does not mean we have accepted your order and if for any reason we are unable to accept your order we will provide you with a full refund within 14 days.

About your order

All orders require registration with an email address, even if they are free. The email you receive will contain a download link for the item(s) you have ordered and will confirm the licence that you have chosen.

Many of the photographs are non-standard sizes. Print orders are printed to the exact proportions of the original so as not to lose any of the image. This may result in the print you receive being slightly smaller than the size of the paper shown. It should also be noted that in some cases the original photographs are either of poor quality or very small in size so any copies made will reflect this.

Your order counts as an offer to purchase goods from us. Once an order is placed we will send you an email confirming the details of your order including as appropriate: the details of the images ordered, the shipping address, the cost of the item (including delivery) and an order number. This email constitutes the VAT receipt for your order.

Only once your order has been despatched have we accepted your order.

Although we will make every effort to fulfil your order we reserve the right to refuse your order at our discretion. If your order is refused we will let you know as soon as possible.

Delivery

All our photographs are supplied in card backed envelopes.

Delivery is with Royal Mail and should take 7-10 days.

Every effort is made on our part to ensure that your order is securely packaged, and we regret that we cannot accept responsibility for damage incurred in transit.

Returns

To be eligible for a return your photograph must be faulty or not what your ordered.

If your item is faulty we will endeavour to replace it at no extra cost or refund your order. Please contact us if you feel you need to return an image.

All photographs are printed to order as custom items and are therefore exempt from refunds and returns unless faulty.
