Unknown lady and Charles Dewhirst, Charles Dewhirst was born in1895, lived at Four Lane Ends, Midgley, and was employed as a worsted weaver. He joined the York and Lancaster Regiment, was a Private number 32086. He died of wounds to his left leg and is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, and recorded on CWGC Cemetery/Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. The report in the local newspaper states that: This destressing news came with the greater shock because only on the same day letters had come from Private Dewhirst to his mother and sweetheart, dated the 2nd and 3rd inst, and indicating with his characteristic brightness that he was in good health and spirits.
