Farnhill Hall from the South

Slide 1 – Farnhill Hall is charmingly situate on a round knoll, 480 feet above sea level, about half a mile from Kildwick, and commanding extensive and beautiful views of the landscape in every direction. Farnhill Hall is a castellated fortified house, possessing four towers, and was built for the purposes of defense. There is no date on it, but it must have been built at a time when the marauding Scots roamed the Dale with impunity. The walls vary in thickness from four to eight feet thick, and the towers are solid, with parapets at the top, high enough to screen a watchman from observation.
