Description
Slide 7 – There is some very fine old oak furniture, also a chimney piece with a quaint over mantle of oak. Among a mass of historical relics preserved here may be mentioned the hat, and sword used by Cromwell, a watch that also belonged to the Protector, also two swords which belonged to Fairfax and General Lambert. Also a document dated April 14th 1626 in which his Gracious Majesty, King Charles the 1st proposed (without consent of his parliament) to borrow £13.6.8d from Mr Thomas Fawkes. It is hoped that his Majesty repaid the money lent him, but on this point history is silent.
