Fire at Calder Mill, Hebden Bridge

Calder Mill on the morning after the fire, 3rd November 1964. It was formally a steam powered cotton mill built in 1863. Known as “Co-op Mill” and run by Robertshaw and Co., it was situated on Stubbing Holme between the River Calder and the Rochdale Canal. At the time the mill was being used to store polystyrene. The cost of the fire was estimated to be £80,000. The chimney is still standing. From A Century of Change , page 111, publisged by Hebden Bridge local history Society.
