Description
General town view. The new Birchcliffe Baptist Chapel (1899) just visible on the hillside above Stubbings School. Building work is taking place on what would become the Adult Learning Centre on Central Street, with Central Street School to the left of it. The mill in the foreground on the other side of the is Canal Works. The bank on the corner of Crown Street was opened in 1890. The Council Offices, built 1897, are visible in the centre of the photo, but the new secondary school on Holme Street not built, that was opened in 1909..
