Description
On the left Hebden Water passing behind the White Lion and then first under Old Bridge then New Bridge at the bottom of Bridge Gate.The T shaped building at the top is the now demolished White Horse Inn. The road at the top, now Commercial Street, is part of the Halifax-Hebden Bridge section of the Turnpike road along the valley bottom. Just below the White Lion is the toll bar. The map was drawn in connection with litigation between William Wadsworth and William Cockcroft over disputed water rights on the Stubbings hillside. See also HLS05008 and HLS05010.
