Mytholmroyd Methodist Church

November 2014 in the days immediately before the formal closure of the Church. The building was previously the Sunday School, built in 1815 and extended in 1872. It was converted into a church when the original Wesleyan Chapel, built in 1835 and which was attached to the SE wall of the Sunday School became unsafe due to serious structural degradation, it was demolished in 1979. A new substantial extension was added at the back of the Sunday School in 1928. This contained a large primary room, off new entrance doorway and with adjacent toilets, kitchen and offices. A wide staircase gave access to classrooms on the first floor which were arranged on either side of a central corridor. The images show the interior of the building with much of its furnishings and fittings still in place although some rooms had been unused for some time prior to closure. In 1960 following the closure of Mount Zion Primitive Methodist Church at Banksfield, Mytholmroyd the congregation of that church merged with that of the Scout Road Methodist Church. Some memorial and other items, including the pipe organ were also removed to Scout Road. In 2019 the building was converted for commercial use.
