Slide 1 – Nunnington, I was once told by a native of an adjoining Ryedale village, was not worth going to see, there being nothing in, or about the place of any interest what so ever. In corroboration of this statement, the writer of “Murray’s Yorkshire’ sums up a description of Nunnington in four lines, and concluded by saying “it contains nothing to detain the tourist.” A place so totally devoid of interest, stimulated my curiosity, so I determined to pay a visit to the village, and see whether these derogatory statements were true or otherwise. Instead of which, a prettier village than Nunnington it would be difficult to find, with its ancient Church and Hall, trees and gardens everywhere, quaint old dwellings, and rustic cots, and the finest avenue of sycamores to be found in Yorkshire.
