Slide 9 – The rooms of the house are lofty and well lighted, and admirably fitted up throughout. The principal staircase from the ground to the upper floor is of stone, which, though not of a very elaborate character, is, nevertheless, pleasing and typical of the period in which it was erected. As an example which shows the substantial manner in which the old builders constructed their dwellings, it may be mentioned that the internal walls in some parts of the house are as much as five feet in thickness. What a difference this, from the modern kind of walls in most houses, when half a brick thick is deemed sufficient.
