Mr Brian Thomas said: ‘We must have been about 8 years old when this photograph was taken. The class had two pairs of twins, myself and my sister Beryl, and Cynthia and Russell Dean.’ On leaving Stubbings Primary School Mr Thomas attended Todmorden Grammar School and then Bradford University where he studied chemistry. Russell Dean, also pictured, was the proprietor of Russell Dean’s furniture in Mytholmroyd. When he left school Mr Dean joined the RAF as an ambulance driver. He then worked on a mink farm. Over the next few years he began to build up a furniture business in a shop on Burnley Road, Mytholmrotd, which later became a chemist’s when Russell moved into larger premises on the site of the former Clough Mill. He also worked as an entertainer, singing in clubs throughout the north.
