Description
The Piece Hall was opened on 1st January 1779 for selling worsted and woollen cloth, every Saturday between ten and twelve o’clock. It contained 315 separate rooms. The industrial revolution saw a shift away from small producers and traders and the Piece Hall fell into decline. It was acquired by Halifax corporation in 1868 who converted it to a wholesale market.
